XXL Days of the Proyecto Hombre Association to promote socio-labor insertion policies.

Last year, in 2018, the Proyecto Hombre Association and the Construction Labor Foundation collaborated on a study on the situation of addictions and substance abuse in the construction sector. The work was recently published and inaugurates an alliance between both institutions that will undoubtedly contribute to raising awareness and proposing solutions to a problem that is in need of them. This report is structured in three distinct parts: first, it presents a contextualization on drugs, a list of risk consumption indicators in the workplace, and the risk and protective factors associated with the labor environment. The regulatory framework and, more specifically, detection tests are recurrent topics to be discussed with serenity within the comprehensive framework of a holistic action.

After this contextualization of the problem and reality of substance abuse in the workplace, the second section presents the research work carried out in the construction sector. This study had a descriptive, cross-sectional, and quantitative design, with a sample of 1,547 workers from the construction sector distributed throughout the national territory. 84.62% of the participants are males, a representative percentage of the sector’s reality, working in companies ranging from over 50 employees on the payroll to self-employed workers. The average age of the participants is around 40 years, and the most common educational level is primary and secondary studies, with 13.91% of the sample having university education.
